The 19mm buttons have IP65 ratings and the 22-28mm buttons have IP67 ratings. The 22-28mm buttons are better suited for marine use that may be in contact with water. The description of the buttons will have their IP ratings listed. See below for a guide.
The black buttons are aluminium with a nickel plating, the black backlit buttons have a plastic face so the etching can be made to light up and the stainless buttons are 304 stainless. The stainless buttons are the most durable especially for marine and UV rays as the sun will not effect the stainless, black halo style buttons and the black backlit buttons are more suited to be out of the sun as possible discolouration can occur after awhile.
The black buttons are etched to a white finish by removing the black plating and annealing the raw aluminium, the black backlit buttons have a transparent white abs face with a strong black coating and the etching simply removes the black coating to reveal the white so the led light can shine through and the stainless buttons are annealed to a near black finish so you will not have issues with the symbols or text rubbing off.
The buttons can not handle a large amount of current like a toggle type switch due to their design and build so will require relays to be used for the majority of applications like horns, light bars, engine fans and compressors etc. You will find in most car applications there are already relays installed for the majority of accessories. When installing new accessories just make sure you have a suitable relay to take the load from the switch so it will last a long time. If you are unsure about wiring I would advise you to speak to your local auto electrician for help before purchasing any buttons.
We do offer a high 16amp rated switch only available in the 19mm range of buttons which can handle a much higher current load so for applications where relays are not wanted or needed then these switches are great to use.
To be able to get a momentary button to start and stop you car, the car will need to have an engine start stop kit/module fitted to be able to start and turn off the car with a single button. These can be retro fitted to cars fitted with a push button start. I recommend you see an auto electrician to do so if you are not confident with understanding the wiring. Simply think of a momentary button as just joining the circuit momentarily for example: they work the same as touching 2 wires together. So to start and stop a car from a single button it needs to be controlled by either an ecu or a module designed to start and stop a car from a single button.
These switches are all universal type switches that are laser etched and can be used for many different applications. Some require tricky wiring like when using buttons to replace a 3 way switch for example, power windows, central locking or exhaust cutouts. I insist you look into using SPDT / DPST type switches for your application as all applications are different, some will require the polarity to be reversed which may need some technical wiring and some may have a control module. I highly recommend you see an auto electrician to help you out with a diagram or if you're handy with wiring try doing a google search as it may also help you understand what is needed better.
